Women Quitting Corporate Positions for Entrepreneurship

women-quitMore and more women managers are opting to quit when companies fail to meet their professional expectations. Opting out is the latest phrase in corporate circles, its used to describe the increasing trend of quitting corporate positions for alternative career options and a growing number of female managers are leaving large companies to start their own businesses. The truth is women are leaving corporate jobs for entrepreneurship two times more than men and this impacts the traditional and online marketplace in a great way.

Accordingly the number of women-owned businesses in the U.S. grew twice than all firms between 1997 and 2002. The Small Business Administration in U.S. also reports that women-owned businesses make up for 28% of all privately-owned companies and they employ 9 million people and contribute more than $2 trillion in revenue to the U.S. economy.

Why are Women Managers Quitting Corporate Positions? Women had always been willing to devote their time, effort & energy to the company’s needs at the cost of their own professional expectations. But as Entrepreneur women are making a conscious effort to get more flexibility, recognition, incentives, perks and other opportunities.

Studies have shown that 51% of women business owners with corporate experience say their desire for more freedom and flexibility was the main reason for them leaving corporate companies, 29% said restrictive glass-ceiling issues made them walk out the door and of those women 44% felt they were not recognized and valued.

So, looking at this new trend I wondered if Entrepreneurship is a better career option for women than having a 9 to 5 job and as I researched the net for an answer I came across a lot of articles describing the benefits of Entrepreneurship for Women, I am listing the top 5 below;

1. Control:
The best thing about a women entrepreneur is that she is in total control of her life. She is her own Boss and does not have to report to anybody. She can go on a vacation any time, as a decision maker she can decide what can happen in her venture and nobody can fire her. It always rocks to be in control of your own destiny.

2. Work equals Fun:
People who work in 9 to 5 jobs always get tired and exhausted at the end of the day. They dread the next morning especially, after the weekends. Some call it “Monday Morning Blues”. But as an entrepreneur you work 24/7 and thus put all your energy in your work. By working this hard, you enjoy whatever you do and because of this, whatever venture you put your effort into, it will eventually turn out to be a great success. Hence the equation is WORK = FUN for women entrepreneur.

3. Confidence:
Since a women entrepreneur trusts herself more than anything else, it unlocks the Giant that is present in her. Coupled with the gigantic effort that goes with the task of getting an enterprise started and running, a women entrepreneur is sure of success. This success leads to more success which results in greater faith in herself. And who does not want to be self confident.

4. Giving back to the Society:
It’s a great privilege to have an opportunity to give something back to the society. Women Entrepreneurs create job opportunities and wealth for others. By doing so they touch many lives and change them for better. By giving back to the society a women entrepreneur can experience a sense of purpose and meaning in her life.

5. Enjoying time-out:
A women entrepreneur will always enjoy every second of her time spent outside of her work. Events like trekking, movies or just chatting with family and friends become very important because of the little time they have. She knows that she may not get this opportunity frequently and so enjoys every moment of it.

Hence being an Entrepreneur offers a Women more challenge and opportunities than a 9 to 5 job. She accepts the challenges involved, she works hard to overcome them and when victory results, she savors the moment to experience the sweet taste of success. This is a life time experience which a women working 9 to 5 job may never experience.
